# Bitcoin for business

Guidance for businesses in Friesland that want to accept Bitcoin and Lightning payments. This is educational information, not financial, tax or legal advice. Bitcoin Friesland is a volunteer community and does not offer paid consultancy.

## Why accept it

- Payments arrive within seconds, day and night.
- Lightning transaction fees are usually much lower than those of regular payment methods.

## How to start

The page describes coinos.io as a simple example: create an account with your business name, fill in your profile and generate QR codes that customers scan to pay. Coinos accepts both on-chain and Lightning payments. Other options are Wallet of Satoshi, BTCPay Server and Lightning Checkout (browser till app, WooCommerce plugin and daily payouts). Coinos holds your bitcoin for you; with Wallet of Satoshi and BTCPay Server you hold your own keys.

Afterwards the location can be added to the list and the Bitcoin map, and "Pay here with Bitcoin" stickers can be provided.

## Bookkeeping

In the Netherlands Bitcoin is generally treated as an asset. When you receive it as payment, record its euro value at the time of the transaction. Tax rules can change; consult an accountant or tax adviser.
